About 2 years ago there once was a group of 8 young men who would meet twice a week to play a game called In-line Hockey.

All of these players were of an elite level and had played for the state, country or both.

Then one day after much political struggle with league officials about how to improve the sport, they decided to make a stand and go out on their own.

Looking for a place to build their dream of having their beloved sport of In-line hockey become proffessional in Australia they found the Sunshine Roller Skating Centre.

Through much resistance and great effort the 8 strong planted the seeds to what now has become the Sushine Cup.

The Sunshine Cup is a League that consists of 6 Group A teams ,4 group B teams, 4 European Roller Hockey teams and an inhouse league consisting of several hundred junior players.

In persuing their dream the 8 strong would lay the foundation for a positive outlet for the youth of the western suburbs. Now instead of bumming around in front of the TV or game consol, instead of becoming a disruptive influence, they can now put their enengy into developing the skills required to play one of the world greatest spectators sport.

Games are played on Thurday night and are free to watch!

Team rostors and game times are on the website www.rollerskating.com.au under ”Sunshine Cup”

It’s great to see that there are still those out there that are persuing their goals and dreams that not only bennefit themselves but our communtiy and our future, the youth.

My hats off to all involved from the players to the parents to the business owners to the spectators that have built something so positive from what must have seemed to others, from nothing.
